EMI Music hits the street with mobile start-up Repudo

05/12/11

Music hits the street, literally with EMI Music’s YOU ME AT SIX and Dutch start-up REPUDO.

London, December 2nd 2011 - REPUDO, a Dutch mobile start-up that distributes digital objects in the real world, comes to the UK.

The free App which is available across iPhone, Blackberry, Android has seen significant traction in its home country growing nearly 200k users in 9 months.

EMI artist YOU ME AT SIX are partnering with the startup to launch their new single in the UK.

REPUDO, which launched in February 2011, enables consumers to ‘drop’ all kinds of multimedia; like text, photo, video, applications or audio files at any location around the world.

Content owners and brands are using REPUDO to give away coupons, run competitions and generate exclusive pieces of content. Once users pick up the REPUDO using their phone it vanishes off the map and appears on their device. If they drop it again for a friend it comes off the phone and back onto the map creating scarcity amongst fans and viewers.

YOU ME AT SIX will launch a scavenger hunt campaign using REPUDO to support the release of their new single “Bite My Tongue” out on Monday 5th December. In addition to giving away a limited number of album samplers, the band has lined up unique goodies and exclusive content that will be appear as icons (REPUDO's) on the Apps map. Once in the area of the REPUDO and collected through the app, they disappear from the map and reappear on the user’s device which only they can use to collect the prize.

REPUDO's will be dropped in all the major cities in the UK and prizes will include; Signed CD’s, VIP meet with the band, Xbox games, exclusive video messages from the band and tickets to see them perform.

Virgin Records Digital Marketing Manager Zack Wilkinson commented “Repudo has given us the medium to interact with the YMAS fan base in a completely new and exciting fashion. Giving us the ability to ‘drop’ assets in specific geo-locations has empowered us with a fantastic marketing tool enabling us to create a dynamic and totally original campaign.

Lucas Tieleman, CEO of REPUDO stated "Having had a extremely successful launch in Netherlands with campaigns for brands T-Mobile, Heineken and KLM and labels EMI AND SONY  we are extremely excited about launching REPUDO in the UK with You Me At Six. The band have an engaged and active fanbase that embraces disruptive technology, a perfect partnership to demonstrate the power of our platform."

About REPDUO

REPUDO lets you ‘drop’ all kinds of multimedia; like a text, photo, video, applications or audio file at any location. If you want to see the Repudo, you actually have to at that location to pick it up. When you pick up a REPUDO, it vanishes off the map. You literally carry it with you in your phone.

It was founded by LUCAS TIELEMAN who wanted to solve the issue of ubiquity in the digital content world. By attaching GPS coordinates to a digital object it has the properties of a real object which gives the ability to drive scarcity into digital content that creates very valuable one off editions as you would with a first edition comic book or bootleg CD.
